Even though we are a Mediterranean island synonymous with hot sunny weather, we also enjoy going all out when it comes to celebrating Christmas and New Year’s. Whether you prefer partying the night away or relaxing in a cosy ambiance, continue reading for our personal recommendations.
VISIT OUR CAPITAL VALLETTA
Valletta is a must-visit any time of the year, but even more so in December. The main Triton Square is transformed into a winter wonderland with a spectacular ferris wheel and an endless variety of food stalls. You can also admire the lit-up decorations in every street, as you browse through all of the shops that are open till late.
EXPLORE THE SMALLER VILLAGES
Aside from Valletta, a number of other towns all over the Maltese islands have their own smaller Christmas markets throughout December. We would particularly recommend spending an evening in Rabat, towards the north of the island right beside our older medieval capital Imdina, or else the southern harbour village of Birgu which is relatively easy to get to via ferry from Valletta.
TAKE A DAY TRIP TO GOZO
It’s the most wonderful time of the year even in our sister island of Gozo. The main city of Victoria is always a hub of activity in December, much like Valletta in Malta. The UNESCO-protected fortified town of Cittadella is located here as well, which is absolutely stunning to experience both during the day and at dusk. So be sure to catch a ferry to Gozo for a lovely day trip while you’re in Malta!
EXPERIENCE THE CHRISTMAS VIBES AT CAFE JULIANI
If you enjoy a cosy atmosphere in December, Cafe Juliani on our ground floor is the place to be! Open daily from 7am to 11pm, you can enjoy a multitude of food and beverage options, including mulled wine and mince pies. We have an acoustic musician every Saturday evening and for Sunday brunch, plus Happy Hour every day from 6pm to 8pm. What’s more, on Christmas Day we will be hosting a special Buffet Brunch from 12.30pm onwards.
CELEBRATE AT ZEST WITH DELICIOUS FOOD
You should definitely stop by our Michelin-recommended restaurant ZEST for a truly unforgettable dining experience on our Level 1. We have live music every Wednesday and Friday evening, and same goes for New Year’s Eve where we will also have an exclusive 3-course dinner available. We even offer the possibility of ZEST room service to our hotel guests, for a perfectly romantic meal from the comfort of your Juliani suite.
