TALLINJA
We do not advise that you rely solely on buses to get around Malta, as unfortunately they are not always reliable. But we do strongly recommend that you download the app Tallinja to track buses in real-time, plan your journeys and receive updates on any service disruptions. You can purchase tickets valid for 2 hours upon boarding a bus, by cash or contactless card, at €2.50 during the day and €3 after 11pm. You can also use the app to register for an Explore card, at €25 per adult and €7 per child, which allows you unlimited travel for 7 days. You can access two bus stops within the Hotel Juliani area, one right in front of the hotel entrance and the other just beside the hotel, depending on which side of the island you are planning to travel to.
ECABS / UBER
If you’d prefer catching a cab, especially when travelling with luggage, there are a number of apps you can use to both request and schedule taxis anywhere around Malta and Gozo. The two options we would most confidently recommend are Uber and Ecabs, the latter being an exclusively Maltese company. Both apps are extremely easy to use once you register the first time round, and you can find endless options of different journeys and vehicles to choose from based on real-time availability. You can also easily select your desired payment method be it cash, card or contactless payment.
WOLT / BOLT FOOD
For any kind of food delivery orders while in Malta, including groceries and toiletries, you can download the WOLT or BOLT Food apps. Both provide a huge variety of cuisine types and other products to choose from, and many local businesses are present on both apps. They facilitate live tracking of ordered deliveries and they constantly provide seasonal special offers.
VISITMALTA+
Visit Malta’s official app acts as a directory for anything you need to know about where to go across the island during your stay. From cultural events to historical tours, you can plan your itinerary and even purchase tickets according to your personal availability and budget. You will also find recommendations for highly recommended restaurants, bars and other places of interest.
WHICH BEACH
With so many different swimming bays all over the Maltese islands, acing the ideal choice can be quite a task. Whether you prefer a relaxing sandy beach or a picturesque rocky area, you can browse the Which Beach app or website to – as you might have guessed – decide which beach to visit. Daily recommendations are based on that particular day’s weather conditions and water temperature, as well as the beach’s cleanliness and available facilities.
GOZO CHANNEL
Catching a ferry to Malta’s sister island of Gozo for a day is an absolute must. The Gozo Channel app will provide you a schedule of ferries to and from Gozo, alongside any last-minute travel updates or delays. The main ferry service is from Ċirkewwa Harbour in Malta to Mġarr Harbour in Gozo, and vice-versa. You can also catch the Gozo Fast Ferry from Valletta, which is less frequent and slightly pricier but extremely easy to use. A final noteworthy tip is that ferries to and from Valletta are available daily from both Sliema and Cospicua.
To stay up to date on everything local during your stay in the Maltese islands, there are a number of local news platforms we recommend following via their respective websites or socials. The most prominent ones include Lovin Malta, Times of Malta and Malta Daily. Moreover, our own hotel’s information screens are constantly updated with notices about upcoming cultural events.
